Michelle Yeoh: The proof that women is winning everything, everywhere all at once

After 95 years, we now have the first Asian woman to grab the Oscar gold, and it's for Best Female Actress.

We've been through a lot of Oscar snubs for the same category over the years, so we can't help but celebrate this highly-anticipated win!

The Academy Awards or more commonly known as the 'Oscars' is the most prestigious, significant awarding event for Hollywood actors.

But it's more than just an awards show. It's not just the red carpet, the hilarious monologues, the camera flashes, the reserved premium seats, or the feeling of being nominated in the same category as Meryl Streep.

It's the excitement of finally holding that piece of solid bronze, plated in 24-karat gold trophy embodying the recipient's talent and hard work. Undoubtedly, that's the best part of the show as they give their acceptance speech. I mean, how dramatic that could be? Maybe it was once their shampoo bottle, and now their shiny symbol of success. Very dramatic, I love it.

Today, the person holding that trophy is Michelle Yeoh, and she is basically winning everything, everywhere these days— bagging trophies for best lead performance at the Independent Spirit Awards, Satellite Award, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Golden Globes, and now, The Academy Awards.

The Malaysian actress truly fought hard— literally and figuratively — and it's just so iconic!

But why does it matter? Hello, we're talking about the most sought-after Oscars. Even actors with decades of strong cinematic portfolio and multiple nominations aren't all rewarded. (Sorry Amy Adams, but still rooting for you!)

On a serious note, it matters because of representation. Her win isn't just another win. It's a win for the whole Asian community and the women who sought to redefine their role in a patriarchal society. Like Evelyn Quan Wang (Michelle Yeoh), women, too, can win everything, everywhere all at once. This moment may feel long overdue, but to Yeoh and the Asian women community: FOR THE WIN!
